If I'm not mistaking, the mini display port to HDMI adapter does not support audio with any mbp made before 2010. The only big difference between HDMI and DVI is that HDMI supports audio. I have my dual monitoring calibrated respectively, so when I move my cursor to the top of my mbp screen, it then moves onto my external monitor. With my setup, I have my mbp on my desk with my monitor sitting over top of it, so basically it looks like two screens stacked on top of each other. It's really just nice having the extra real estate when using programs with interfaces that use a lot of screen space. You honestly don't need a super accurate monitor unless you are doing stuff like color correction and color grading. You would definitely get more accurate color reproduction and quality with an Apple display, but the price difference makes this setup acceptable to me. This causes the display on the monitor to be slightly pillar boxed (vertical black bars on the left and right side), this also causes the picture to be not quite as sharp as my mbp screen. It works fine but the native resolution on my mbp is 1440x900 where as the monitor is 1920x1080.

When you are competing against another vendor to provide some technology solution, if your cost is $8000 less than the competitor (everything else being comparable), would'nt you go with the cheaper solution? (1c X 800000 = 8000).Īlso, why do you even care what display technology is used when you are running POS and other monitoring equipment? The bottom line becomes COST.
